Gajwel is located at 17.8517°N 78.6828°E. It has an average elevation of 568 meters (1866 ft) above sea level. Gajwel is about 53km from Secundrerabad on the Rajiv highway. The nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the Telangana capital city, Hyderabad. Till 2012 Gajwel was a Panchayat and in the year 2012 it was upgraded as Nagara Panchayat vide G.O. No.34, dated: 251-01-2012, duly merging surrounding three (3) Gram panchayats i.e., 1. Pragnapur, 2. Mutrajaplly and 3. Kyasaram Gram Panchayats and 5 numbers of hamlets namely Rajireddy Pally, Sangupally, Sangapur, Lingarajpet and Gundannapally in Medak District.

History:

It is believed that Gajwel got its Name during Nizam’s era and previously known as Gajwelly, at the time of Nizam ruling it was the place for Elephants army (in sankrit Gaja meaning is elephant) , from that it have been called as Gajwelly. There is another story that during the Mahabarath period the pandavas was came to the Gajwel as the part of their vanavasam and stayed at Pandavula cheruvu adjacent to the town, people will show the mark of the Bheema Gadha which is now also visible at the said pond, from the mark of Gadha the Gajwel Name have been arrived.

Political Importance

The 60 years Dream of Telangana people have been came true in the year 2014, The first Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana Sri Kalvakuntla Chandra Shekar Rao is being representing as an MLA of Gajwel Assembly Constituency , in the Leadership and Guidance of the Hon’ble CM have been planning to development activities and to provide basic aminities like Godhavary water supply, Roads, Drains, Parks, Grave yards, Markets, Slaughter Houses etc.

For catering the needs of the p[public at the constituency level one office have established in the name of Gajwel Area Development Authority (GADA) with one Special Officer in the cadre of Deputy Collector, The said GADA office is being superintending the recent proposed works like integrated office complex, Rajiv parks renovation works , Education city, poor housing colony, Road widening works etc at Gajwel-Pragnapur town.
